Reddish-brown liquid. Decomposes under the influence of light, evolving chlorine, a highly toxic and irritating gas. Reacts violently with water, evolving hydrogen chloride, a corrosive gas apparent as white fumes. In the presence of moisture, corrosive to most metals. Liquid and vapours cause burns to skin, eyes and mucous membranes.
